CBSA Auto-Assignment

Automatically assign stations and brands to markets based on signal contour overlap

How It Works

For each brand, the system checks the signal contour of all linked facilities (main station + translators + HD subchannels). If the combined signal covers 25% or more of a CBSA's population, the brand is automatically assigned to that market.

  • Uses ray-casting algorithm to test census tract centroids against contour polygons
  • Aggregates population of all tracts inside the contour
  • Calculates coverage percentage: (population in contour / CBSA total population) × 100
  • Creates assignments in brand_cbsa table with coverage percentage
